Beverly Cleary's best-selling children's book Ramona & Beezus is coming to life on the big screen July 23, and we have a first look at the new movie featuring Josh Duhamel, John Corbett, Ginnifer Goodwin, Selena Gomez and more!
'Ramona & Beezus' follows the adventures of young Ramona Quimby (newcomer Joey King) and her big sister Beezus (Selena). Ramona's vivid imagination, boundless energy, and accident-prone antics keep everyone she meets on their toes. But her irrepressible sense of fun, adventure and mischief come in handy when she puts her mind to helping save her family's home. The film also stars Sandra Oh and Bridget Moynahan.
"Ramona and Beezus are probably as different as different can be," says Disney star Selena. "We don't like each other in the beginning, and kind of annoy one another, and then towards the end we realize that we kind of need each other."
But in real life, Selena is an only child and enjoyed having a "sister" in Joey, if only for awhile.
"I think the sister story behind it is very sweet," says Selena, while Joey says Selena "would be an awesome older sister for me. … She definitely is like a big sister to me. I look up to her."
Josh Duhamel plays Ramona's neighbor, and he says of Ramona, "She's just this open little spirit that really wants to do the right thing … and sometimes her imagination gets the best of her and she screws up."
Josh also becomes an unintended target in a water fight, and Selena says, "It was a blessing -- it was not cold that day. It's been cold almost every day on set and raining, but that day was perfect, so we all got wet and it was really fun."
In a big change from his 'Sex and the City' role, John Corbett plays their dad, and he says he was surprised to find huge crowds of tweens flocking to the set for Selena!
"I had no idea she was such a big star; I'd show up and I'd think, 'How sweet, these kids came out to see me?'" he says with a laugh. "Out of the way old man! Can you get us Selena Gomez' autograph?"
